EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — Prestonsburg remained unbeaten in district play Friday night, defeating Floyd Central 54-14 behind another impressive performance from quarterback A.J. Johnson.
The Blackcats wasted little time taking control, scoring touchdowns on their first four offensive possessions to build a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Those four scoring drives required just nine offensive plays.
Johnson accounted for six touchdowns and 291 yards of offense. He rushed for 179 yards and four touchdowns on just six carries while completing four of six passes for 112 yards and two scores. Cruiz Clark and Maddox Pugh each caught a touchdown pass.
For Floyd Central, quarterback Ketrin Mays completed 10 of 19 passes for 90 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown to Austin Meade. Meade finished with four receptions for 50 yards, while Caleb Williamson added four catches for 30 yards.
Mays had to leave the game just before halftime due to an injury.
Ethan Curry provided the Jaguars' other touchdown on a 51-yard run in the second quarter, his 14th rushing score of the season.
The victory improves Prestonsburg to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 2A, District 7, keeping the Black Cats atop the district standings. Floyd Central falls to 1-1 in district play.
Prestonsburg travels to Leslie County next Friday, while Floyd Central visits Martin County in another important district matchup.
For his outstanding play, A.J. Johnson was named the WMDJ Community Trust Bank Player of the Game for the second consecutive week, having accounted for 12 touchdowns over his last two games.
