Prestonsburg Rolls Knott Central 59-13

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Prestonsburg opened district play in dominant fashion Friday night, rolling past Knott County Central, 59-13 in our WMDJ Game of the Week presented by Appalachian Wireless.

The Blackcats improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in district play, while Knott Central fell to 4-3 and 0-2 in the district.

A.J. Johnson led the way for Prestonsburg with 372 total yards and six touchdowns. Johnson rushed for 188 yards and also threw for 203 yards, scoring the Blackcats’ first four touchdowns and helping Prestonsburg take control early. For his efforts, Johnson was named our Community Trust Bank Player of the Game.

Five different Blackcats caught passes. Cruiz Clark finished with five catches for 57 yards, Sam Hyden had three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, and Maddox Pugh caught two passes for 61 yards and a score.

Colin Hatfield, Brody Hicks and freshman quarterback Trevor Maynard also added rushing touchdowns.

Prestonsburg’s defense kept consistent pressure on Knott Central throughout the night, limiting the Patriots after a promising opening possession.

Jaden Amburgey led Knott Central with eight catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Chayse Hendrickson finished 7-of-15 for 79 yards and a score.

Prestonsburg heads to Eastern next week to take on Floyd Central in a matchup with major district implications.
