ATLANTA, Ga. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds battled back from an early deficit Thursday night to beat the Atlanta Braves 7-6 and take the three-game series, two games to one.
Carlos Jorge opened the scoring with his first career home run in the top of the first, but Atlanta answered with four runs in the bottom half.
Cincinnati began chipping away in the second before Elly De La Cruz launched his 30th home run of the season in the third. Eugenio Suárez followed later in the inning with a two-run single, giving Cincinnati a 5-4 lead.
Atlanta tied the game on an Austin Riley solo homer and went back in front, 6-5, on Mike Yastrzemski's RBI single in the fifth.
The Reds delivered the deciding blow in the sixth. Héctor Rodríguez hit a two-run homer to right, scoring Suárez and putting Cincinnati ahead 7-6.
The Reds bullpen held Atlanta scoreless the rest of the way. Connor Phillips earned the win, while Alexis Díaz Pagán recorded his 25th save.
Cincinnati improves to 74-85 and now heads north for its final three games of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. WMDJ will join the Reds broadcast following the conclusion of the East Ridge-Betsy Layne high school football game.
