CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds closed out the home portion of their 2026 season with a 9-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs Sunday.

Chicago jumped in front in the first inning and broke the game open with four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

JJ Bleday provided Cincinnati’s only run with his 23rd home run of the season in the fourth inning.

The Cubs answered with three more runs in the fifth, including a solo homer from Michael Conforto and a two-run shot from Pete Crow-Armstrong. Seiya Suzuki added a solo home run in the eighth.

Crow-Armstrong finished 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs as Chicago collected 13 hits. Seven different Cubs drove in at least one run.

David Peterson earned the win after allowing one run on three hits over six innings. Rhett Lowder took the loss for Cincinnati, allowing five runs in three innings.

The Reds are off Monday before opening their final road trip of the season Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
