Cubs Pull Away Late to Beat Reds, 5-2

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Chicago Cubs scored three unanswered runs over the final four innings Saturday night to defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2, at Great American Ball Park.

 

Chicago took a 2-0 lead before Cincinnati answered in the fifth. Eugenio Suárez scored on a throwing error following a JJ Bleday single, and Ke'Bryan Hayes followed with an RBI single to tie the game.

 

The tie did not last long. Michael Busch hit his 20th home run of the season in the sixth to put Chicago back in front, 3-2. Nico Hoerner added an RBI single in the eighth before Dansby Swanson hit his 19th homer in the ninth for the final run.

 

Nick Lodolo took the loss despite working seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks.

 

Cincinnati managed only four hits and fell to 72-83 on the season.

 

The Reds and Cubs wrap up the three-game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m., with Rhett Lowder taking the mound for Cincinnati.
