Betsy Layne Stuns Floyd Central 53-52 With Late Comeback

EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — In our WMDJ Game of the Week presented by Appalachian Wireless, Betsy Layne erased a 13-point deficit in the final seven minutes Friday night, edging Floyd Central 53-52 on Eli Jarrell’s fifth rushing touchdown with just 12 seconds remaining.

The Jaguars led 52-39 with 6:52 to play after Ethan Curry scored his school-record sixth rushing touchdown. Jarrell answered with a touchdown that capped a three-minute, 12-second drive, pulling the Bobcats within striking distance.

Betsy Layne’s defense then forced a punt, giving the Bobcats possession near their own 27-yard line with roughly 2:40 remaining. Jarrell calmly guided the winning drive before reaching the end zone in the closing seconds.

The sophomore quarterback finished with 158 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns and 207 passing yards, earning Eli Jarrell Community Trust Bank Player of the Game honors. Grayson Hall added 100 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Canyon Slone returned a kickoff for a score.

Curry led Floyd Central with 213 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Kaleb Williamson added 142 receiving yards and a touchdown in his season debut after returning from injury.

Betsy Layne improved to 2-2 and will host East Ridge next week in WMDJ’s Game of the Week. Floyd Central fell to 1-4 and will welcome Knott County Central for its district opener.
