MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds finally got back in the win column Sunday, rallying past the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 to snap a five-game losing streak and avoid a series sweep.
Milwaukee struck first in the second inning when Joey Ortiz hit a two-run homer off Chase Burns for a 2-0 lead.
Cincinnati's offense came alive in the sixth. Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart reached ahead of Eugenio Suárez, who launched a three-run homer to right-center to put the Reds ahead 3-2. It was Suárez's 24th home run of the season.
Jake Bauers tied the game with a solo homer in the seventh, but the Reds answered in the eighth. De La Cruz reached and eventually scored on Tyler Stephenson's sacrifice fly, giving Cincinnati the 4-3 advantage.
Brandon Williamson earned the win after allowing one run over four innings of relief. Emilio Pagán worked around a ninth-inning hit to record his 23rd save.
De La Cruz and Stewart each finished with two hits, while Suárez drove in three of Cincinnati's four runs.
The Reds improve to 70-79 and return home Monday, but they'll face a familiar opponent as the Los Angeles Dodgers come to Great American Ball Park for a four-game series. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:10 on WMDJ FM 100.1.
