PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Prestonsburg built a 35-point halftime lead and held off a second-half East Ridge rally Friday night, defeating the Warriors 41-22 at Blackcat Stadium.
A.J. Johnson accounted for 281 yards of offense and five touchdowns for the Blackcats. Johnson rushed for 180 yards and three scores while throwing for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Maddox Pugh caught a 3-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and also recorded an interception, while Cruiz Clark caught five passes for 88 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown. Crayson Lafferty added a 12-yard scoring run.
East Ridge scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to cut the deficit to 35-22. Cole Ratliff rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries, while Canaan Ramey added a touchdown.
Johnson put the game away with a 9-yard touchdown run in the final minute.
Both teams are now 3-1.
Next week the Prestonsburg Blackcats will host the Pike County Central Hawks to Josh Francis Field at Blackcat Stadium while the Warriors of East Ridge host Leslie County on Lick Creek.
