CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds rallied from an early deficit Wednesday night to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 at Great American Ball Park and even the series heading into Thursday’s finale.
St. Louis scored twice in the fourth, but Cincinnati answered in a big way in the sixth when Sal Stewart launched a three-run homer, his 27th of the season, to put the Reds ahead 3-2.
The Reds added two more in the eighth. Matt McLain scored Jose Trevino on a bunt single and throwing error before Dane Myers brought McLain home to make it 5-2.
St. Louis made things interesting in the ninth when Jordan Walker hit a two-run homer, but Emilio Pagán finished off the 5-4 victory.
McLain went 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Chase Burns struck out eight over five innings.
