CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds split a doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, dropping the opener 2-1 before rallying for a 6-5, 10-inning victory in the nightcap.
St. Louis scored twice in the first inning of Game 1 on Alec Burleson’s two-run double. Dane Myers provided Cincinnati’s only offense with a solo homer in the fourth. The Reds managed just three hits and struck out 15 times in the loss.
In Game 2, Cincinnati rallied from a 4-1 deficit, tying the game in the sixth on a Michael Toglia RBI double and a two-run single from Héctor Rodríguez.
The Cardinals regained the lead in the eighth, but Myers delivered again, blasting a game-tying solo homer with two outs in the ninth.
Elly De La Cruz then ended it in the 10th with a walk-off double that scored Tyler Stephenson for the 6-5 victory.
The Reds finished the day at 60-65.
The first game was a makeup game from May 24th due to it being postponed and game two was the actual first game of the series. There are three more games to go with game two set for 6:40 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.
