CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — Sometimes when you have an ace on the mound, one run is all you need.

Chase Burns was dominant Friday night, tossing seven scoreless innings as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Miami Marlins, 1-0, at Great American Ball Park. Burns allowed just four hits, struck out eight and did not issue a walk, improving to 14-2 with a 2.47 ERA.

The game's only run came in the sixth when Eugenio Suárez doubled to center, bringing Tyler Stephenson home from first. The hit was the 1,500th of Suárez's career and ended Sandy Alcantara's scoreless streak at 25 2/3 innings.

Brock Burke struck out the side in the eighth before Emilio Pagán worked a perfect ninth for his 15th save.

Wasn't pretty offensively but what matters most is getting the W.

The Reds and Marlins return Saturday night for game two of the three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
