WASHINGTON D.C. (WMDJ) — If you’re the Cincinnati Reds, this is a weekend you try to forget as quickly as possible.

The Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep Sunday afternoon, beating Cincinnati 7-1 and dropping the Reds to 56-61.

Cincinnati took its only lead in the second inning when Dane Myers brought Tyler Stephenson home on a sacrifice fly. Washington answered with two runs in the bottom half before Abimelec Ortiz homered in the third to make it 3-1.

Reds starter Brady Singer kept Cincinnati within striking distance, allowing three runs over six innings, but the offense never got going. The Reds finished with only four hits and struck out nine times.

Washington pulled away late, scoring once in the seventh and three more in the eighth, highlighted by Andrés Chaparro’s two-run double.

The Reds will have Monday off before their road trip continues Tuesday night with the opener of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
