CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — Elly De La Cruz came through once again Thursday night, helping the Cincinnati Reds open a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 3-2 walk-off victory at Great American Ball Park.

De La Cruz finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, while the Reds collected nine hits in the win.

Cincinnati struck first in the third inning when De La Cruz doubled home Matt McLain before Sal Stewart followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Pittsburgh chipped away in the fifth before Brandon Lowe tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth.

The Pirates threatened to take the lead in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but reliever Brock Burke struck out Lowe to end the inning and preserve the tie.

That set the stage for the ninth.

De La Cruz led off the inning with his second double of the night before Tyler Stephenson worked a one-out walk. Nathaniel Lowe then hit a ground ball that forced Stephenson out at second, but De La Cruz sprinted home from third with the winning run as the Reds walked it off, 3-2.

Rhett Lowder allowed two runs over six innings while striking out five to start the game on the mound. Brock Burke, Tejay Antone and Emilio Pagán combined for three scoreless innings of relief, with Pagán earning the victory.

The Reds improve to 51-57 and will continue the four-game series Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. with pregame coverage starting at 5:40 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
