Guardians take Ohio Cup with 6-1 win over Reds

CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Cleveland Guardians claimed the 2026 Ohio Cup on Wednesday night, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 at Great American Ball Park.

 

The game turned in the fifth inning when Cleveland sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs. Travis Bazzana opened the scoring with an RBI single before Kyle Manzardo and Gabriel Arias each drew bases-loaded walks. Patrick Bailey capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

 

The Reds finally broke through in the sixth when Noelvi Marte drove home Dane Myers with an RBI single, trimming the deficit to 4-1.

 

Manzardo added insurance in the seventh with his 13th home run of the season before Steven Kwan's sacrifice fly later in the inning extended the lead to 6-1.

 

Brady Singer took the loss despite allowing just four hits over 4? innings. Four Cincinnati relievers combined to finish the game.

 

Cleveland pitching dominated the Reds' lineup, combining for 16 strikeouts while holding Cincinnati to six hits. The Reds stranded 10 runners and finished just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

 

The loss snapped Cincinnati's three-game series winning streak.

 

The Reds return to action Thursday night when they open a four-game home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
