SEATTLE, Wash. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds rallied late to earn something they hadn't accomplished in almost a month, back-to-back victories.
Sal Stewart blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Reds defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Wednesday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, securing both their second straight win and their first series victory since June.
Seattle struck first in the second inning on an RBI single by Cal Raleigh before Cincinnati answered in the fourth. JJ Bleday tied the game with his 17th home run of the season, and Dane Myers followed with an RBI single to put the Reds ahead 2-1.
The Mariners responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Luke Raley delivered a two-run single to regain a 3-2 lead.
Cincinnati turned the game around in the seventh. Edwin Arroyo and Ke'Bryan Hayes reached base ahead of Stewart, who launched his 21st home run of the season into right-center field to give the Reds a 5-3 advantage.
Brady Singer earned the win after allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings while striking out six. Emilio Pagán recorded a perfect ninth inning for his ninth save of the season.
The Reds finished with eight hits, led by Stewart's three RBIs. Myers collected two hits, while Tyler Stephenson, Edwin Arroyo and Hayes each scored a run.
Cincinnati (47-54) is off Thursday before opening a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:45 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
