SEATTLE, Wash. (WMDJ) — Andrew Abbott and the Reds traded zeros with the Mariners through the first four innings Monday night before Seattle broke through in the fifth and pulled away late for an 8-0 victory at T-Mobile Park.
Julio Rodríguez drove in Victor Robles with a single in the fifth inning to give Seattle a 1-0 lead, the only run Abbott allowed over six strong innings. The left-hander scattered four hits, struck out six and walked two, but took the loss after receiving no run support.
The game unraveled for Cincinnati in the seventh. Colt Emerson lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 before Weston Wilson doubled home another run. Two batters later, Cal Raleigh blasted a grand slam to left-center field, stretching Seattle's lead to 7-0.
The Mariners added their final run in the eighth when Emerson scored on a force out by Raleigh.
Cincinnati was held to three hits, one each from Dane Myers, Edwin Arroyo and Ke'Bryan Hayes, while going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
The Reds and Mariners continue their series Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. Eastern, with pregame coverage beginning at 9:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
