MILWAUKEE, Wi. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds watched a three-run lead slip away Monday night as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 5-3 victory in the opener of a four-game series at American Family Field.
The Reds struck first in the opening inning when Dane Myers drove in Spencer Steer with an RBI double. Cincinnati added to the lead in the fifth as Elly De La Cruz launched a two-run home run, his 13th of the season, to make it 3-0.
Nick Lodolo was outstanding, allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings while striking out four and walking four.
The game changed after the bullpen took over.
Milwaukee scored twice in the sixth, tied the game on Brice Turang’s solo home run in the seventh, then Joey Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the eighth to put the Brewers in front for good.
The Reds finished with nine hits, led by Elly De La Cruz’s two RBIs, but struck out 10 times. Chase Petty was charged with three runs in relief as Cincinnati fell to 39-44 on the season.
Game two of the series is Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 7:10 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
