Stephenson's Three-Run Homer Lifts Reds to Series Win Over Yankees

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WMDJ) — Tyler Stephenson’s three-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be the difference as the Cincinnati Reds knocked off the New York Yankees 4-1 Sunday afternoon, taking two of three games in the series.

The Yankees grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the third when Ben Rice launched a solo home run to right-center field.

Cincinnati answered in the fourth. Nathaniel Lowe and Noelvi Marte reached ahead of Stephenson, who blasted a three-run shot to left-center to put the Reds in front 3-1.

The Reds added an insurance run in the ninth when Marte delivered an RBI ground-rule double, scoring Spencer Steer for the final margin.

Marte finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Blake Dunn also collected two hits. Stephenson drove in three of Cincinnati’s four runs.

Chase Burns earned the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven over five innings. Taylor Rogers, Sam Moll, Caleb Ferguson and Tony Santillan combined to hold New York scoreless over the final four innings, with Santillan recording his fifth save.

With the victory, the Reds improve to 37-39 and move closer to the .500 mark.

The Reds return home Monday night to open a series against first-place Milwaukee. First pitch from Great American Ball Park is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
