CINCINNATI, Oh. (WMDJ) — The Reds will be looking for a quick turnaround tonight after a rough start to Saturday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.
St. Louis defeated Cincinnati 8-1 in game one, pulling away with a steady offensive attack that included 12 hits.
The Reds struck first and only in the second inning when Nathaniel Lowe launched a solo home run to right field, giving Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals answered in the third with back-to-back RBI plays from Alec Burleson and Jordan Walker to take the lead for good.
St. Louis added another run in the fourth before Walker delivered a two-run homer in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Cardinals tacked on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, including a two-run home run from Bryan Torres.
Cincinnati managed just two hits in the loss. Lowe accounted for one of them along with the team’s only run.
The Reds will try to split the doubleheader in game two tonight at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m., with the Inside Pitch pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
