CHICAGO Il. (WMDJ) — The Reds couldn’t hold on late Monday night, falling to the Cubs 5-4 in Chicago.
Cincinnati built an early lead behind solo home runs from JJ Bleday and a two-run shot from Ke’Bryan Hayes, finishing with four runs on 10 hits.
Spencer Steer put Cincinnati back in front in the eighth with an RBI double that scored Blake Dunn, giving the Reds a 4-3 lead.
Then the ninth inning got away from them, with Nico Hoerner tying it on a sacrifice fly before Michael Conforto won it with a walk-off solo home run.
Emilio Pagán took the loss in relief, allowing two runs in the ninth. Starter Petty went five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on four hits.
The game was delayed one hour and 40 minutes due to rain.
