PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds were shut out Sunday, falling 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a tightly played game. If you really love pitching and low scoring, this was the game for you.
The Reds managed just four hits and struck out eight times, unable to capitalize on limited opportunities at the plate.
Pittsburgh scored the game’s only run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Oneil Cruz.
Cincinnati starter Chase Burns turned in a strong performance, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing three hits and striking out seven. However, the bullpen allowed the deciding run in the eighth.
The loss drops the Reds to 20-14 on the season and marks their first series sweep of the year.
Cincinnati will look to bounce back Monday as they open a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Inside Pitch pregame show will start at 7:10 PM with first pitch being scheduled for 7:40 on WMDJ FM 100.1.
