Reds rally late to edge Twins 5-4

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds scored twice in the final two innings to rally past the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Saturday.

 

Minnesota struck first with a two-run triple from Ryan Jeffers in the opening inning, then added runs in the third and fifth to build a 4-2 lead.

 

Cincinnati chipped away throughout the game. Tyler Stephenson drove in a pair of runs with a sacrifice fly in the second and an RBI single in the fourth.

 

The Reds pulled within one in the seventh on an RBI single from Elly De La Cruz, then tied the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Rece Hinds.

 

In the ninth, Dane Myers delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI single to center, scoring Spencer Steer to give Cincinnati the lead.

 

At the plate, Eugenio Suárez and Noelvi Marte each had two hits, while Stephenson finished with two RBIs.

 

On the mound, Reds starter Andrew Abbott allowed four runs over 4.2 innings, while the bullpen held Minnesota scoreless the rest of the way. Randy Santillan picked up the save.

 

Cincinnati and Minnesota will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday. The Inside Pitch pregame will start at 1:40 PM with first pitch scheduled for 2:10 PM on WMDJ FM 100.1.
