Reds edge Twins 2-1 behind Suárez double

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds scratched across just enough offense and held on late to beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Friday night.

The Reds broke through in the fourth inning. Eugenio Suárez delivered the key hit, lining a two-run double to center that scored Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart for an early 2-0 lead.

Minnesota answered in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Austin Martin, cutting the deficit to one, but that would be all the offense the Twins could manage.

Cincinnati’s pitching staff made the lead hold up. Starter Brandon Williamson earned the win after allowing one run over 5.1 innings. The bullpen followed with 3.2 scoreless frames, and Emilio Pagán closed it out for his sixth save.

The Reds finished with four hits, led by Suárez with two and both RBIs. Minnesota had five hits but went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Cincinnati improves to 12-8 and second place in the NL Central with the win and continues the series against the Twins on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 PM with the Inside Pitch pregame show set for 1:40 PM on WMDJ FM 100.1.
