MIAMI, Fla. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds fell behind early and couldn’t recover as the Miami Marlins pulled away for an 8-1 win in the series finale.
Miami struck first in the opening inning. Agustín Ramírez reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Xavier Edwards to score. A fielding error by Reds third baseman Eugenio Suárez helped extend the play and give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.
The Marlins added to it in the fourth inning. Owen Caissie delivered a two-run double to left field, scoring Liam Hicks and Otto Lopez. Later in the inning, Javier Sanoja followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.
Cincinnati got its only run in the fifth inning when Sal Stewart launched a solo home run to center field, his fourth of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Miami answered right back and continued to build separation late. Sanoja added another RBI single in the sixth, Caissie drove in a run in the seventh, and Ramírez capped the scoring with a two-run single in the eighth.
The Reds finished with seven hits in the game, led by Matt McClain and Spencer Steer with two each. On the mound, Rhett Lowder took the loss after allowing five runs over five and one-third innings.
Cincinnati returns home to Great American Ballpark tomorrow and welcomes the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. with the Inside Pitch pregame show set for 6:15 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
