Reds fall to Marlins after early lead slips away

MIAMI, Fla. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds jumped out to an early lead, but the Miami Marlins answered with a big middle innings surge to take a 7-4 win in game three of the series.

Cincinnati got on the board first in the opening inning. Elly De La Cruz scored on a fielding error, and Eugenio Suárez followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0.

Miami quickly responded in the bottom of the first. Agustín Ramírez drove in a run with a double, and Liam Hicks added an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

The Marlins took control in the second inning. Jakob Marsee and Xavier Edwards each delivered RBI singles to put Miami in front 4-2.

Miami added more in the third when Griffin Conine hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Reds got a spark in the fifth inning, as Sal Stewart hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 6-4. Stewart finished with two hits and drove in two runs.

However, Cincinnati could not get any closer. Connor Norby added a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring at 7-4.

Reds starter Brady Singer struggled, allowing six runs on ten hits over two and two-thirds innings. The bullpen settled things down, with Sam Moll tossing over two scoreless innings in relief.

Cincinnati managed nine hits in the game, with TJ Friedl leading the way with three.

The Reds and Marlins wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:10 p.m., with the Inside Pitch pregame show beginning at 11:40 a.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1.
