MIAMI, Fla. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds rallied late to defeat the Miami Marlins, 6-3, in extra innings at loanDepot Park.
Both teams were held scoreless early, as Andrew Abbott allowed two runs over five and a third innings, while Sandy Alcantara was sharp, giving up just three hits over eight-plus innings.
Miami broke through in the fourth inning. Otto Lopez and Heriberto Hernandez each grounded out, but drove in runs to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
The Reds stayed quiet until the ninth. Sal Stewart lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Matt McClain, cutting the deficit to one. Moments later, a wild pitch from reliever Anthony Bender allowed Elly De La Cruz to score from third, tying the game at 2-2.
Cincinnati took control in the 10th. Nathaniel Lowe delivered an RBI single to give the Reds their first lead of the night. Matt McClain followed with a bases-loaded double off the wall in left, driving in two more runs. De La Cruz added another RBI on a groundout to extend the lead to 6-2.
The Marlins scored once in the bottom half of the inning on a force out by Graham Pauley, but could not complete the comeback.
