Reds shut out Marlins 2-0 for fourth straight win

MIAMI, Fla. (WMDJ) — The game wasn’t pretty, but the Cincinnati Reds got the win over the Miami Marlins, 2-0.

Reds starting pitcher Brandon Williamson turned in the longest outing of his career and delivered from the mound.

Cincinnati broke through in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Sal Stewart, bringing home Elly De La Cruz for a 1-0 lead.

The Reds added to it in the eighth, when Tyler Stephenson launched his second home run of the season to make it 2-0.

Bouncing back after a rough first start against Pittsburgh, Williamson allowed just three hits over six and two-thirds scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out four, keeping Miami off the board throughout his outing and earning the win.

The bullpen stayed sharp late, with Tony Santillan tossing a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit. Emilio Pagán followed with a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

The Reds have now won four straight to improve to 7-3 on the year, their best 10-game start in five seasons. Three of those wins, including tonight, have been shutouts.

The Reds are back in Miami tomorrow for game two of the four-game series at loanDepot Park. The Inside Pitch pregame show begins at 6:10 p.m., with first pitch set for 6:40 on WMDJ FM 100.1.
