ARLINGTON, Tx. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds picked up another road win Saturday night, shutting out the Texas Rangers 2-0 in game two of a three-game series at Globe Life Field.
The Reds wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, Elly De La Cruz drove in Matt McClain with an RBI single. One batter later, rookie Sal Stewart followed with a line drive to right-center, bringing De La Cruz home to make it 2-0. Cincinnati finished with eight hits, with Matt McClain, Sal Stewart, and Spencer Steer each recording two.
That would be all the offense Cincinnati needed.
Rhett Lowder turned in a strong outing on the mound, allowing just three hits and no runs over six innings. The bullpen backed him up, as Graham Ashcraft and Tony Santillan combined for two hitless innings.
Closer Emilio Pagán made things interesting in the ninth, allowing a hit and a walk with two outs, but struck out Rangers center fielder Evan Carter to secure his third save of the season.
Not an offensive showcase, but a win is a win for Cincinnati.
The Reds look to go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon at 2:35 PM with the Inside Pitch pregame show starting at 2:05 PM on WMDJ FM 100.1.
