Reds edge Rangers in series opener, 5-3

ARLINGTON, Tx. (WMDJ) — The Cincinnati Reds opened their first road trip of the 2026 season with a 5-3 win over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field, thanks to some late game power.

The Reds struck first in the second inning, when Spencer Steer launched a two-run home run to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead. Eugenio Suárez reached base ahead of the blast with a single. It was Steer’s second hit of the season and his first homer.

Texas answered in the bottom half of the inning. Rangers catcher Danny Jensen hit a line drive to left that dropped with two outs, allowing two runs to score and tie the game at 2-2.

Elly De La Cruz broke the tie in the sixth inning with his third home run of the season, putting the Reds back in front 3-2.

The Rangers responded again in the seventh. After a missed diving catch in center field by Dane Myers, Wyatt Langford delivered an RBI double to bring home Brandon Nimmo and even the score at 3-3.

Cincinnati delivered the final blow in the ninth inning. Tyler Stephenson came through in the clutch with a two-run home run, scoring Spencer Steer, who had reached on a double. It was Stephenson’s first home run of the season and gave the Reds a 5-3 lead they would not give up.

Tony Santillan picked up the win out of the bullpen, while Emilio Pagán earned his second save of the season.

The Reds and Rangers continue the series Saturday night at Globe Life Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST, with the Inside Pitch pregame show beginning at 6:35 p.m. on WMDJ FM 100.1. Rhett Lowder is scheduled to start for Cincinnati, while Kumar Rocker is expected to take the mound for Texas.
