EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — The Betsy Layne Ladycats connected on their first five three-point attempts and never looked back Monday night, beating Prestonsburg 62-40 in the semifinals of the 58th District Tournament at Floyd Central.
The win snaps a nine-game losing streak in the postseason for Betsy Layne, who advances to the district finals for the first time since 2017.
Coincidentally, the last time the Ladycats won a district tournament game, it was Prestonsburg whom they beat, 47-43.
Junior Maddy Collins was named Community Trust Bank Player of the Game. Collins finished with a game-high 16 points, with all five of her made field goals coming from behind the arc.
She was joined in double figures by Jayden Jarrell and Jaden Pente, who finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Prestonsburg was led in scoring by Jade Fitzpatrick, who finished as the only Lady Blackcat in double figures with 14 points.
