EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — Floyd Central, having already secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 58th District Tournament, completed a perfect district slate in the regular season, defeating Lawrence County 66-38 Friday night.
The win marked the first time since the 2020-21 season that the Lady Jaguars (19-6) have swept the Lady Bulldogs (9-13), and the first time since the 2017-18 season that they finished district play 6-0.
Maddy Engle was named WMDJ Floyd County Player of the Game. The Floyd Central sophomore finished with a game-high 20 points and led the Lady Jaguars with 10 rebounds. It was Engle's third double-double of the season and ninth time she has scored at least 20 points.
Lawrence County was led in scoring by sophomore Jada Patton, who finished with nine points.
Floyd Central is set to host Perry County Central on Tuesday, February 17th. Lawrence County will return to Floyd County on Saturday, February 18th when it visits Betsy Layne.
