JAGUARS CLINCH REGULAR SEASON DISTRICT CROWN WITH OVERTIME THRILLER OVER BULLDOGS

EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — Sophomore Brayden Turner converted steal into points in the final seconds of overtime to help lift Floyd Central to an 83-81 win over Lawrence County on Friday night.

Trailing by six entering the fourth quarter, Floyd Central (18-5) connected on 10 of 17 shots in the final 12 minutes to complete the comeback.

The win clinched the 58th District regular season championship for Floyd Central, its first outright title since the 2017-18 season. That season was also the last time the Jaguars finished district play with a 6-0 record.

Floyd Central was led by freshman Lucas Howard, who was named WMDJ Floyd County Player of the Game. Howard finished with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, recording his ninth double-double of the season.

Howard was joined in double figures by seniors Chris Spriggs (21 points) and Dylan Boyd (15).

Lawrence County (13-10) placed four players in double figures, led by Kaiden Harris's 21 points, joined by Kaden Johnson (17 points), Hayden Perry (15), and C.J. Waller (13).

Floyd Central travels to Pike County on Saturday, February 14th for a neutral site game with Shelby Valley at the Virgie High School Gymnasium in Virgie. Also on Saturday, Lawrence County completes its district schedule with a road game at Betsy Layne.
