Morehead State to recognize Phil Simms during honorary stadium naming ceremony

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WMDJ) - One of Morehead State University's most famous alums, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms, will have MSU's football stadium named in his honor.  when the Eagles host Marist during Homecoming on Saturday, October 18th.

 

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. outside the stadium and will be open to the public.

 

Simms, a Springfield, Kentucky native, came to Morehead State from Louisville Southern High School in 1975. In 1977, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and finished his career at Morehead State with 5,545 passing years and 32 touchdowns passing. 

 

Simms led the NY Giants to a pair of Super Bowl wins in 1989 and 1990.

 

The historical naming of Jayne Stadium, originally named after the late professor Willam LeGrande Jayne, will remain present with an honorary plaque inside the stadium entrance.
