FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) - Bonita Compton, who's fiery spirit helped propel the Allen Central Lady Rebels to years of success on the hardwood has passed away.

Bonita has been fighting pancreatic cancer for over two years. She passed away Monday morning, January 20th.

Bonita won 222 games while coaching Allen Central High School from 1985-1997. Her coaching accolades include four 15th Region All 'A' Classic championships in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1997 and one runner-up finish in 1996. Her Lady Rebels also finished as 15th Region Tournament runner-up in 1993. She was also named KABC 1997 15th Region Coach of the Year.

There will be celebration of her life and achievements during this Saturday's triple-header basketball classic at J.E. Campbell Arena at Allen Central as the gym will be honored as a Glory Road facility for it's historical significance to high school basketball.

Funeral arrangements will be announced.
