Floyd Central Stays Hot with Win over Knott Co. Central 75-72

EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) – The Floyd Central Jaguars continued to correct their charted course winning their fourth game in five tries, defeating Knott County Central 75-72 Tuesday night at home.

The Jaguars unofficially shot 62% from the field, bolstered by big performances from seniors Braden Moore and Ronnie Samons.

Samons led the way with 26 points on (12-14) shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Moore pumped in 25 points with five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

As a team, Floyd Central dished out a combined 20 assists, with Chris Spriggs leading the way with 12 dimes.

Both teams enjoyed double-digit leads throughout the contest as the game swayed back and forth. The Jaguars used a (15-3) 2nd quarter push to own a 43-33 lead at the half, yet the Patriots rallied with a 26-14 advantage in the 3rd quarter to retake the lead at 59-57 starting the final period of play.

The Jaguars would begin the 4th quarter with a 3-point basket by Spriggs, followed by a break away layup by Moore after a Patriots miss. Next trip down for Knott County resulted in a steal by Samons, which led to another made 3-pointer from Moore.

After a timeout by Knott Co. Central, the run would continue with another long-range bomb from the hands of Dylan Boyd, as the Jaguars reeled off 11 unanswered points, which proved to be enough to seal the win.

The Patriots were playing shorthanded without the services of Jayden Huff, had four players in double figures: Drake Slone 21, Hunter Haddix 16, Braxton Reade 14 and Chance Amburgey 12 point.

Floyd Central (11-12) will host Huntington Expression Prep on Thursday, February 15th at 7 p.m.
