PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) – The administration at Prestonsburg High School is welcoming back all former players and coaches of the Lady Blackcats as the program will recognize 50 years of basketball this Friday, February 9th.
Alumni players and coaches will be recognized between the girls and boys varsity games at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse. There will also be a reception for alumni at the school prior to the start of girls contest at 6 p.m.
The Lady Blackcats (10-11 / 0-4) are still searching for their first district win of the season as they host Betsy Layne (13-8 / 1-3), who’s enjoyed a resurgent season.
With Lawrence County and Floyd Central wrapping up their district play and locking down the top two seeds in the upcoming 58th District Tournament on the girls side, Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg are playing to determine who will finish 3rd and 4th in the standings.
Both schools will meet again for boys’ action in the nightcap. Prestonsburg is sitting at (14-10 / 1-3) and trying to finish the season with a winning record for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign when the Blackcats won 18 games under then-coach Jack Pack.
Betsy Layne has won 4 of their last 5 games, raising their record to (12-10 / 1-3). The Bobcats have picked up two victories this week, defeating Paintsville 69-64 on Monday and knocking off Shelby Valley on the road 69-60 on Tuesday.
WMDJ will broadcast both games Friday night. Tune to 100.1 FM or listen online at WMDJFM.com or download the new WMDJ mobile app to hear the action. You can also watch both games on the WMDJ Facebook page live.
