FRANKFORT, Ky. (WMDJ) — A former treasurer of the Wolfe County Animal Shelter has been indicted on a felony theft charge involving more than $112,000.
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Wednesday that a Wolfe County grand jury indicted 74-year-old Pam Pilgrim of Campton on one count of theft by unlawful taking, a Class C felony.
According to the indictment, Pilgrim is accused of taking $112,144.58 from the animal shelter between January 2019 and July 2024.
The investigation began after the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts discovered financial irregularities during an audit and referred the matter to the Attorney General's Office.
Pilgrim was arraigned Wednesday afternoon. A judge ordered that she not serve as treasurer on any boards while the case proceeds.
A special prosecutor has been assigned to handle the case.
Pilgrim is scheduled to return to court February 18.
The charge is an allegation, and Pilgrim is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
