Knott County Man Indicted on Nine Federal Child Exploitation Charges

LONDON, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Knott County man previously arrested on 17 state charges involving child sexual exploitation now faces a nine-count federal indictment.

Federal court records show Jared Oneil Salmons, 46, of Leburn, was indicted Thursday, October 22, in the U.S. Federal Court in London.

The indictment includes four counts of allegedly producing obscene depictions involving minors, four counts of receiving child sexual abuse material, and one count involving possession of altered images made to appear to depict children younger than 12.

According to previous reporting by WYMT, Salmons was identified as pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Cornettsville and was fired as general manager of the Knott County Water and Sewer District following his arrest.

Prosecutors are also seeking forfeiture of a cellphone seized from Salmons and have requested a federal arrest warrant.

Salmons was arrested October 13 following a Kentucky State Police investigation into the alleged distribution of child sexual abuse material through social media.

Salmons is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
