Big Sandy Inmate Sentenced to 30 Months for Assaulting Federal Officer

Category: Local News

ASHLAND, Ky. (WMDJ) — An inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Big Sandy has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for assaulting a federal correctional officer.

Malik Alleyne, 30, was sentenced Tuesday, October 13th, by Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning after pleading guilty to two counts of assaulting a federal officer resulting in bodily injury.

According to federal prosecutors, Alleyne became disruptive inside his cell on January 21st. When staff ordered him to stop, he displayed a razor blade attached to a plastic handle.

Prosecutors say Alleyne attacked an officer when staff entered the cell, repeatedly punching, biting and striking the officer, causing injuries.

The FBI investigated the incident, and the case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
