R/S-Godwin Plans $17 Million Floyd County Expansion, 65 New Jobs

Category: Local News

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — R/S-Godwin Truck Body Co. plans an estimated $17 million expansion in Floyd County expected to create 65 full-time jobs, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Monday.

The trucking equipment manufacturer plans to expand its land, buildings and machinery to increase production. It is also in the initial stages of acquiring more than seven adjacent acres for future growth.

The new jobs are expected to include welding, fabrication, CNC plasma and press brake work, and material handling.

A preliminary state incentive agreement calls for an average hourly wage of $35.84, including benefits, across the new positions. The company could qualify for up to $2.1 million in performance-based tax incentives over 15 years by meeting investment and employment targets. An additional incentive approval allows up to $150,000 in eligible sales and use tax recovery.

R/S-Godwin began in 1968 as a local shop serving Eastern Kentucky’s coal industry and was acquired by the Godwin Group in 2002. The company focuses on dump body production and recently expanded its facility to 165,000 square feet to accommodate a powder coat paint and primer operation.

Floyd County Judge/Executive Robbie Williams thanked the company for continuing to invest locally and credited state and regional partners for supporting the project.

The release did not provide a hiring schedule or a completion date.
