MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — The jury trial for two Martin County parents charged in the death of their 11-year-old son will now take place in Johnson County.

WYMT reports a judge granted a request from attorneys for Patrick Speer and Christina Chapman to move the trial.

Both face first-degree criminal abuse and second-degree manslaughter charges in connection with the August 2025 death of Nicholas Speer.

The child's estate has also filed a separate wrongful death lawsuit against Martin County school officials, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and Chapman, alleging failures to intervene despite signs of serious medical distress.

A trial date has not been set.
