KITE, Ky. (WMDJ) — Kentucky State Police is investigating a deadly shooting in the Kite community of Knott County that resulted in a murder charge.

KSP Post 13 received a report of a shooting around 9:39 p.m. Monday along the 13000 block of KY-7.

Troopers and emergency personnel arrived and found 55-year-old Terry Short, of Kite, outside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to KSP, the preliminary investigation indicates an altercation occurred between Terry Short and 44-year-old Robert Short, also of Kite. Police say a firearm was discharged during the altercation, striking Terry Short.

Robert Short was taken into custody at the scene and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail on one count of murder.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Kentucky Office of the State Medical Examiner.

The investigation remains ongoing.
