PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Pikeville man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from inappropriate online communication with a teenager.

Curby Tackett, 35, pleaded guilty in May to using a computer to procure a minor for sexual activity and tampering with physical evidence.

Tackett was arrested in April 2025 after police received a report that he had sent inappropriate material and messages through Facebook Messenger to a 15-year-old girl. A guardian later contacted Tackett and told him to stop communicating with the teen and that the matter would be reported to police. Authorities say his Facebook account was later deactivated.

Tackett was initially charged with tampering with physical evidence and misdemeanor distribution of obscene material to minors. A grand jury later upgraded the latter charge to the felony procurement charge.

During a sentencing hearing Thursday, Pike Circuit Judge Howard Keith Hall sentenced Tackett to five years and ruled that he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole. That amounts to approximately four years and three months.
