DORTON, Ky. (WMDJ) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a weekend crash in Pike County that left a Virginia man seriously injured and sent a trooper to the hospital.
KSP says two troopers had parked their cruisers in the median of U.S. 23 in the Dorton community while conducting highway safety enforcement early Saturday morning.
At around 1:20 a.m., a UTV struck the rear of one of the cruisers.
The trooper suffered a laceration to the back of his head and was taken to Pikeville Medical Center. He has since been released.
The UTV operator, identified as 28-year-old James Honaker of Virginia, suffered severe injuries and was also taken to Pikeville Medical Center. Police said Monday that Honaker remains hospitalized in serious condition.
