McKinney Seeks Bond Reduction, Work Release as Defense Cites New DNA Results

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) — An attorney for Michael “M.K.” McKinney III is asking a Pike Circuit Court judge to reduce his $5 million bond and allow him to leave home incarceration for work.

McKinney has remained on home incarceration with GPS monitoring since posting the bond in December. His attorney, Steven Romines, says McKinney has complied with all court-ordered conditions.

The motion also points to new Kentucky State Police DNA testing that the defense argues weakens the case against McKinney. The filing says DNA belonging to Roy Kidd and Michael McKinney II was identified on several tested items, while McKinney III’s DNA was not identified on any item included in the newest report.

The defense is asking for a reduced property bond or the previously posted $1.005 million bond, along with approved work release. The motion is scheduled for September 17.
