Former Magoffin County Teacher Sentenced to 17 Years in Federal Prison

ASHLAND, Ky. (WMDJ) — A former Magoffin County High School teacher has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for online enticement involving a minor.

Jason Back, 44, of Salyersville, was sentenced Monday by Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

According to Back’s plea agreement, between March 6 and March 9, 2023, he exchanged text messages with a minor that included sexually explicit content and plans to engage in sexual intercourse.

Federal prosecutors said Back was a high school teacher at the time and used his position of authority and trust to entice the minor to engage in sexual activity.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Blankenship as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative targeting child sexual exploitation and abuse.
