State Audit Finds No Problems with Floyd Sheriff's Property Tax Collections

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WMDJ) — A state audit found no reportable problems with the Floyd County Sheriff’s property tax collections.

The audit reviewed taxes handled by the sheriff’s office between September 1, 2023, and August 31, 2024.

Auditors found the sheriff’s financial statement fairly showed the taxes that were charged, collected and distributed. The report also found no instances of noncompliance and no major weaknesses in the office’s financial controls.

The sheriff’s office collected about $16.6 million in taxes during the period. More than $9.5 million of that amount was collected for the Floyd County school district.

The report was prepared using Kentucky’s required accounting method for sheriff tax collections. State auditors said that same method is used for sheriff tax settlements in all 120 Kentucky counties.
