PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Prestonsburg woman has been indicted on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian earlier this year.

A Floyd County grand jury on July 22 indicted 55-year-old Julia Vanderpool on one count of first-degree assault and one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence. The indictment alleges the offenses occurred May 30 in Floyd County.

According to court records, Vanderpool is accused of striking a pedestrian with her vehicle, causing serious physical injury. Investigators alleged she showed signs of impairment at the scene and that she told authorities she had taken prescribed Neurontin and Xanax before undergoing field sobriety testing and a blood draw.

The pedestrian was flown from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

Vanderpool was initially arrested following the crash and later released on bond. The indictment moves the case to Floyd Circuit Court for further proceedings.
