Floyd County Reminds Residents Illegal Dumping Is Being Monitored, Offers Free Disposal Option

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Floyd County officials are reminding residents that illegal dumping remains a problem and say enforcement efforts are continuing across the county.

According to the county, a recent illegal dump site was discovered along Allen Banner Road. Officials say cameras are actively monitoring known dumping locations, and anyone caught illegally disposing of trash could face prosecution.

County leaders say illegal dumping creates unnecessary cleanup costs for taxpayers while also posing hazards to waterways, railroad property and other public areas.

Officials also reminded residents they have a free legal option for disposing of household waste. Floyd County residents may dispose of waste at no charge once each month on either a Monday or Friday at the Rumpke/Floyd County Transfer Station, located at 200 Garth Hollow Road in Martin. Again, you must be a Floyd County resident and show your ID.

Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping is encouraged to report it to Floyd County Code Enforcement at 606-886-9193.
