EASTERN, Ky. (WMDJ) — Floyd County Schools has been awarded a $200,000 Opioid Abatement Referral Grant to expand support services for students and families affected by substance abuse.
The funding was presented by Floyd County Judge-Executive Robbie Williams and the Floyd County Fiscal Court and will be administered through the district’s Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSC).
According to the district, the grant will allow FRYSC staff to provide expanded assistance to students whose lives have been impacted by opioid use within their households. Resources will be used to address immediate family needs while connecting families with services that promote long-term stability, well-being and student success.
School officials said the initiative began in 2024 through a partnership between Floyd County Schools, the Floyd County Fiscal Court and FRYSC leaders to pursue opioid settlement funding for local students and families.
Youth Service Center Director Teresa Griffith said the grant will allow schools to reach more students affected by opioid use while providing resources that were previously unavailable.
